Add page numbers to PDF

Long reports, theses, and contracts are much easier to reference with page numbers, but not every document is created with them. DMI's page numbers tool adds them after the fact, right in your browser: pick a format such as 1, 1/n, or Page 1 of n, choose where on the page it sits, and set a starting number if the first pages should not be counted. Because the whole operation runs locally, the document is never uploaded anywhere while it is processed. The result is a new PDF with clean, consistent numbering, ready to print, bind, or share, downloaded the moment you click apply.

How it works

  1. Upload the PDF you want to number.
  2. Choose a number format, position, and starting number.
  3. Click Apply to download the numbered PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is adding page numbers free?

Yes, DMI's page numbers tool is completely free, with no signup and no limit on how many documents you number. Every format and position option is available without a paid plan, and no watermark is added to the output.

Are my files private and safe?

Yes. Page numbering happens entirely in your browser, so your PDF is never uploaded to a server. We log usage metadata, including your IP address, tool name, filename, and file size, for up to 12 months to help prevent abuse, never the file content.

Can I start numbering from a page other than the first?

Yes. You can set a starting number and choose which page it begins on, so a cover page or table of contents can be skipped and the body pages numbered from 1 onward, or from any number you choose.
